The 110-foot flag hoisted at Basavakalyan Fort is a symbol of the town's rich historical and cultural heritage. Basavakalyan, formerly known as Kalyana, was the capital of the Western Chalukya dynasty from 1050 to 1195 CE. The fort, constructed in 973 CE by King Nalaraja, served as a strategic military and administrative center during this period. Over the centuries, it has witnessed the rise and fall of various dynasties, including the Kalachuris, Yadavas, and the Bahmani Sultanate.
.
The 110-foot flagpole stands as a tribute to the town's historical significance and its association with Basaveshwara, a 12th-century social reformer and the founder of the Lingayat sect. Basaveshwara's teachings on equality and devotion continue to inspire the region today
